Since the nationality of a child under 18 is tied to that of their father or mother, it is not possible to renounce nationality solely for the child. Therefore, it is through the loss of nationality by one of the parents that the child can lose Turkish nationality.

In the case of divorced parents, the consent of the other parent is required, even if the parent making the request has sole custody. If consent is not granted, a court decision is necessary.

If both parents request to renounce their Turkish nationality, minor children will automatically lose their Turkish nationality.

The procedure to renounce Turkish nationality requires the authorization of the ministry.
